NaNoWriMo

I'm giving NaNoWriMo a shot this month. I'd tried it several years ago, but didn't get very far, as it was the first time HP tried to lay me off. I doubt I'll hit the 50,000 word goal this time, but this time I have a sooper sekret weapon up my sleeve - I spend anywhere between 90 minutes to 2 hours on the train every weekday, and most of that lately has been spent playing a game of tetris (ooh crap, gotta charge the DS, the light went red at redwood city last night... ok plugged in) and although reaching 1000 lines in a single game is a noble goal, I don't think anyone else would really care.

It should be interesting. The one concern I have at the moment is that the trains I take are mostly the old style ones, and the seats are so close together that fitting me and my laptop in a useable position is difficult. I have a plan for that, too, if I can find the charger that goes with my palm tungsten, and find the stowaway keyboard cleverly hidden in a box somehwere.

I recommend attending some of the write-ins happening throughout each week. I believe it to be one of the reasons the Bay Area has such a high percentage of people finishing. A good group of folk attend the various write-ins.

The Sunday write-ins at OVC and Thursday evenings at Coffee Society happen throughout the year, too. Though I'm not participating this year, I'll likely show up for support at some of the write-ins.

Good luck! Just keep writing. You'll make it. Just remember to turn off your internal editor. Editing can be done later.

Sounds great, good luck! I know a lot of people doing NaNoWriMo this year. I'd do it myself if they allowed non-fiction. ;) Keep us posted as to how it's going!

You just need to write a thinly-fictionalized story about an adventurous young woman who motorcycles through the American Southwest meeting interesting local characters and contemplating life.

Don't let the "novel" moniker stop you from participating. Use the time to work on your writing. There really aren't any serious rules. Start writing. :)

Oh, I'm not slacking on the writing. Well, other than having a column deadline of today that is clearly not getting met. Oops. :D

Good luck! I'm going to try to do it this year, too. Fuck if I know what I'm going to write, though.

Ditto, good luck. I'm trying it again this year - I went to the peninsula group kickoff; they seem like a nice group.
